When EU presidents meet with EU presidents

The headline from the office of the rotating EU Presidency, Belgium in this case tries hard to give them some value…

Belgium Presidency Working visit to the President of the European Commission.

The Prime Minister Yves Leterme, the Vice-Prime Ministers Steven Vanackere, Laurette Onkelinx, and Joëlle Milquet and the State Secretary for European Affairs Olivier Chastel took part in a working meeting with the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, as part of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

God only knows how many others were there and at what cost.

Ok, there’s enough people there for a night out, or a working lunch, but was it just a meeting or a working meeting and what is the difference? I know its silly but the headline makes one ask the question.

Was its just a meeting where they sat around and chatted about the weather, or were there charts and graphs and lots of references to statistics and figures and did it involve them doing some working out, maybe on separate sheets of paper, or to be quite honest could it all have been dealt with in a conference call and let them all go to the bar for lunch instead, at a huge saving to the taxpayers burden.

Well, as the first Belgian said to the second Belgian, you can never have too many EU Presidents?

Oh look, Herman the EU Uber President’s schedule for next week. He’s meeting some Presidents too. Lots of photo opportunities apparently. With a wage packet bigger than the US president its important to have lots of photos.

And would you believe that the European Economic & Social Committee has no less than 13 Presidents, all being paid small fortunes at your expense…

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention, NONE of these presidents who rule your lives have been ELECTED.
