SURRENDER – UK first EU Province to raise white flag

The UK government has given up, it has surrendered to Brussels and from now on will simply cut and paste EU Directives into UK Statutes.

“The key to the new measures will be the principle of copying out the text of European directives directly into UK law,” said a statement from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS)

No scrutiny, No challenge, No governance. They are no longer fit to be called government, they have surrendered that right to Brussels.

They do this even while they admit that the implementation of EU Directives are a disadvantage to the UK..

Quangos – the political magic trick

Roll up, Roll up, Roll up, watch the magician make the quangos disappear before your very eyes.. watch carefully Ladies and Gentlemen, because if you can guess where the quango has gone you might get your money back..

Well you may as well for all the good it will do, the Bonfire of Quangos is going to be the biggest sleight of hand ever..

A bonfire of Quangos or a transfer of power to EU.

A HIT list of 177 taxpayer-funded bodies to be abolished in a “bonfire of quangos” has been drawn up, it emerged yesterday.

This story is running with most of the press this morning, so there must have been a briefing..
but before I start saying thank god, I want a copy of the detailed list, so that I can check it against contacts in the EU bodies that will inevitably take over responsibility for the remits that these quangos had, to see whether it is a genuine cull, or simply a movement of responsibility to the EU institutions.

UK Coalition speed up EU integration

There was a press release from the EU Commission today that caught my eye via the Albion Alliance presents site, which is a source for raw no spin EU related information.

The press release, which I doubt you will find any reference to in the UK press, was issued by Internal Market and Services Commissioner Michel Barnier who said:

It’s essential that European rules aimed at making the Internal Market work are implemented in Member States – in time and properly.

Smokers resistance

“This resistance is not about sitting around and chanting ‘Ohm’.
It’s time to act like the monsters we are made out to be.”

Underdogs bite upwards has a wonderful piece regarding the side swipe dismissal by Clegg of peoples wishes over the smoking ban.

That young whippersnapper Clegg decided he wasn’t at all interested in what anyone had to say. Not just smokers. Not one single detail of government will change as a result of his ridiculous pretend consultation. Nothing. So there is no further purpose in engaging with government in any way. They asked for opinions, received many, ignored them all. The time for discussion has passed. Long passed, if only we had realised. This new government is the Gorgon in a smiley mask. No wonder he gave in so easily. He realised that his oppression would continue under Wavy Davey’s Red Tories and Simpering Nick’s Laughable Dhimmicrats.

Speaking with forked tongues

Talk about forked tongues, this very interesting post penned by my friend over at Witterings from Witney, certainly shows how the public is being deceived by those we thought had the UK’s best interests at heart.

Intrigued by The Coalition – and in particular the Cameron/Hague Duo – pushing for Turkey’s accession to the European Union, it seemed a little ‘digging’ was necessary. In the course of that process this website was found – Conservative Friends of Turkey. On their website, under ‘Aims & Objectives is:

Nudge being used by Coalition

Today Douglas Carswell attempts to put the blame of our woes and troubles firmly onto the shoulders of the Civil Service.

I am certainly no fan of big government, exactly the opposite, however one should be aware that Civil Servants, and the departments and Quangos that they occupy are created and staffed by Acts of Parliament and the permissions of various Secretaries of State.

To blame them alone seems rather crass, although the underlying theme of the article is to ensure that their numbers and functions are reduced, so to that element there is common cause.

Beware Coalitions bearing gifts..

Now that the dust is beginning to settle in and around Downing St, an army of bloggers and journalists begin the work of picking through the details of the Coalition Agreement, and I have to say that by the hour I am beginning to find it not as settling as my first scan of the document gave me hope to believe. There is something not quite right with this LibCon love in.

Albion Alliance – next steps

Its been a long and interesting weekend. I travelled north to meet my colleagues in the Albion Alliance, spending 2 days thrashing out some fairly detailed ideas and plans on how we move the campaign forward in the wake of a totally indecisive election.

Although I am not going to give precise detail yet of what we have decided, the key pointers will be around the known events, and the re-run of the general election that cannot be so far away that it is already a distant blip on the horizon, but definitely in view.

Our next steps will include:

Beyond a Caretaker government

The results of our general election are just beginning to sink in, and the unholy mess that is left is taking time for me to establish some clear and coherent thoughts about.

The national swing from Labour to Conservative was clearly not enough for them to form a majority government. But this has also shown and highlighted the futile system we call First Past the Post (FPTP).

The Liberal Democrats have increased their share of the national vote by 1%, and yet they have suffered a net loss of 5 seats.
